A story, then a conversation
Each picture book is written for the child. Each companion guide is written for the grown-up beside them.
- Read the story together. Kids see themselves in a character who has lived through something hard, and who finds a strength inside it.
- Use the companion guide. Talking points, a story walk-through, and calm-down skills help you know what to say.
- Keep the conversation going. 14 story-based worksheets and affirmation cards turn one reading into weeks of connection.

Stephanie Waldron, MS
Stephanie spent part of her childhood in kinship care, so she knows firsthand what it’s like for a child to carry big feelings without the words to explain them. For more than fifteen years she has served people in some of the hardest moments of their lives: as a crisis case manager and mobile crisis responder, a suicide loss advocate, an educator inside California prisons, and a researcher evaluating programs for vulnerable communities.
Today she volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in foster care, teaches psychology, and is pursuing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She believes every child deserves to feel seen, safe, and understood.
For teens, and for the grown-ups too
The kids from the picture books are growing up. In The Strengths We Carry, they return as teenagers facing anxiety, grief, identity, and the leap into adulthood, with real-life tools on every page.
